Dr. Pedro Jacob Christoffoleti was a Researcher and Associate Professor at the Department of Plant Science at University of Sao Paulo – Brazil, for 30 years. He was elected honorary member of the Brazilian Weed Science Society and Weed Science Society of America and Chair in the Department of Plant at University of Sao Paulo for 4 yeas. With a career in agronomy, his expertise lies in weed science, mainly with weed herbicide resistance and weed management in tropical crops such as sugarcane, citrus, coffee and annual grain crops. Dr. Christoffoleti’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, followed by a Master of Science in Agronomy from the same institution. He earned his Ph.D. in Weed Science from Colorado State University, where his dissertation focused on fitness of resistant biotypes of Kochia scoparia resistant to ALS inhibitor herbicides. His professional appointments span various roles, including Professor and Researcher University of Sao Paulo Brazil. Since 2018, he has been serving as Director of the Herbtech Consulting Company, dedicating 100% of his time to research and consulting. Dr. Christoffoleti’s contributions to science and education have been recognized through numerous awards, including as honorary member of the Weed Science Society of America. He has an extensive publication record with over 110 peer-reviewed articles, four book chapters. His research has been widely cited, reflecting his impact on the field. Additionally, Dr. Christoffoleti is also known for his dedication to teaching and mentoring, advised 54 graduate students and mentor of several undergraduate students. He has developed and taught numerous courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on topics such as weed management in sugarcane, weed herbicide resistance and crops such as coffee, citrus, eucalyptus, pinus, etc. Dr. Christoffoleti has actively contributed to international collaborations, establishing student exchange programs and facilitating visits of scientists between Brazil and other countries. His efforts have significantly enhanced the academic and research experiences of students and scientists globally. His work is used as model for the developing Brazilian and South American agriculture based on his consulting conducted to growers not only in Brazil, but also in Argentina, Bolivia and Guatemala.
